The Jack Straw Artist of the Week Podcast highlights work created through the Artist Residency Programs at Jack Straw Cultural Center.
  • Jacqueline Tabor & Marina Albero - Four Women

    “Four Women” is from the forthcoming album Don’t Explain, the product of an award-winning, deeply expressive performance project led by celebrated vocalist Jacqueline Tabor and pianist-composer Marina Albero. Inspired by the enduring influence of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, the project blends original compositions with reimagined repertoire to create a powerful, contemporary jazz experience.

    The Don’t Explain album, produced through Jacqueline’s Jack Straw Artist Support Program residency, will be released on May 20th. Tickets are available now for the release celebration at the Triple Door.

  • Artscape - Eyvind Kang

    “I didn’t really decide to do music, I kind of just kept doing it.” This Artscape radio piece was produced during Eyvind Kang‘s Jack Straw Artist Support Program residency in 1994, the first year of the program. He talks about his approach to creating music, his inspirations, and his collaborative process with musicians such as Tim Young and Mari Murao.

  • Jim Knodle and Pamela Moore Dionne with Lynette Westendorf: What I Want (Live at Jack Straw)

    Jim Knodle, Pamela Moore Dionne, and Lynette Westendorf performed selections from their 2001 Jack Straw artist residency project Keeping the Devil Out: Poems and Music for Sabina Spielrein, at Jack Straw’s artist showcase in October 2022, celebrating 60 years of Jack Straw.   • River Coello - HAMPI (Excerpt)

    This week we share an excerpt from the audiobook of Jack Straw New Media Gallery artist River Coello‘s HAMPI, produced at Jack Straw. River’s Jack Straw New Media Gallery installation HAMPI, which incorporates sound from the audiobook, opens April 3rd, with a reception and performance from the artist.

  • The Bonnies – Cowboy Bob

    Jenny Peterson and Kaitlin McCarthy/The Bonnies produced “Cowboy Bob” as part of their Jack Straw Artist Support Program residency. In their residency, they created audio for their show I’m on Fire, You’re on Fire, We’re on Fire, presented through the Velocity Regionally Established Creative Incubator Program. The show opens tonight at 12th Ave. Arts and runs through Saturday, March 7th.

  • LaVon Hardison - 28 Days (Live at Jack Straw)

    LaVon Hardison performed her song “28 Days” as part of her set with Cyd Smith at the Jack Straw Artist Showcase in April 2023. The whole showcase is archived on Jack Straw’s YouTube channel.

  • William Chapman Nyaho - Silk Hat and Walking Cane (Price)

    This recording of Florence Price’s “Silk Hat and Walking Cane” is included on William Chapman Nyaho’s album Kete: Piano Music of Africa and the African Diaspora, produced through the Jack Straw Artist Support Program and released in 2020 on MSR Classics.

  • Christian Swenson - Good Walking

    Performer Christian Swenson produced Off-Road Vocals, an album of vocal improvisations, as part of his 1999 Jack Straw Artist Support Program residency.

  • Alex Keller - The Four Hundred Boys

    Alex Keller recorded his electro-acoustic work The Four Hundred Boys, based on the Mayan Book of Creation, as part of his 1998 Jack Straw Artist Support Program residency.
