KTNA: The Kelp Forest
In July 2026, Jack Straw and Arts and Visually Impaired Audiences (AVIA) presented an accessible youth and family art workshop with resident artist Katana Sol (KTNA), exploring the sights and sounds of her immersive, multimedia installation, The Kelp Forest. Through music, projected video, and drawn and painted artworks and assemblage, the installation invites viewers to reflect on the fragile beauty of ocean life and humanity’s relationship to the natural world.
After an audio described tactile tour of the installation with teaching artists Laura Ferri and Iveliz Martel, participants created print block artwork with ocean inspired ink stampers, similar to those found in The Kelp Forest.
This program was made possible with support from the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, 4Culture, Washington State Arts Commission, National Endowment for the Arts, and individual contributors.
