This Tree Is Me: Denny Poetry 2018 is the culmination of a project with Jack Straw artists in residence and students from the eighth grade Dual Language Spanish Immersion program at Denny International Middle School in Seattle, Washington during the spring of 2018.

Denny students and staff come from diverse backgrounds and represent many different countries. During this program, students in the Dual Language Reading and Writing classes worked with Washington State Poet Laureate and Jack Straw Board Member Claudia Castro Luna to capture through poetry the idea that we all have strong and complex roots, just like trees and our environment. Vocal coaches Yadira Duarte and Katya Davida Landau worked with the students to encourage them to share their poems out loud and build confidence in the power of their voices. Audio technicians Daniel Guenther, CJ Lazenby, and Joel Maddox helped the vocal coaches record the students in the professional studios at the Jack Straw Cultural Center.

Este Árbol Soy Yo: Poesía de Denny 2018 es la culminación de un proyecto con artistas en residencia de Jack Straw con estudiantes del programa de inmersión de octavo grado de Denny International Middle School en Seattle, Washington durante la primavera de 2018.

Los estudiantes y personal de Denny tienen diversos orígenes y representan muchos países diferentes. Durante este programa, los estudiantes de lectura y escritura en español trabajaron con la Poeta Laureada de Washington y miembro del consejo de administración de Jack Straw, Claudia Castro Luna, para capturar por medio de poemas la idea de que todos tenemos raíces fuertes y complejas, tal como un árbol. Los entrenadores de voz Yadira Duarte y Katya Davida Landau trabajaron con los estudiantes para animarlos a compartir sus poemas en voz alta y cultivar la confianza en el poder de sus voces.
