Roosevelt High School: Stories That Need to Be Told 2019

Stories that Need to Be Told is a podcast series produced by Roosevelt High School students and Jack Straw Cultural Center in Seattle, Washington. As part of a final project in their Advanced Placement English Language and Composition class, the students investigated, interviewed, and reflected on aspects of life they felt deserved more attention. They worked with Jack Straw’s teaching artists to learn about interviewing, record their interviews in class, and develop their stories. Then they worked with Jack Straw’s artist team to bring their stories to life in the studios at Jack Straw Cultural Center.

The Jack Straw artist team included vocal coaches Alyssa Keene, Kate Myre, and Richard Sloniker; audio engineers Daniel Guenther, Joel Maddox, and Ayesha Ubayatilaka; production interns Connor Wang and Lorenzo Rossi; designer Levi Fuller; photographer Sherwin Eng; and Executive Director Joan Rabinowitz. Special thanks to Roosevelt High School teacher Carolyn Kenney Hall, Assistant Teacher Julia Hutchison, the Roosevelt High School Foundation, and the Washington State Arts Commission for their support. Original music was created by Steve Griggs through the Jack Straw Artist Support Program.
