Laura Luna Castillo: Onix y Marmol

Kids standing around a microphone, playing instruments. In March 2025, Jack Straw and Arts and Visually Impaired Audiences (AVIA) presented an accessible youth and family art workshop with resident artist Laura Luna Castillo in conjunction with her New Media Gallery installation, Onix y Marmol.

After an audio described tour of the installation by Lynne Compton of AVIA and Jack Straw, participants recorded improvised performances with instruments and household objects in Jack Straw’s recording studio. Laura then processed these recordings, and the participants used interactive hardware that allowed them to trigger and interact with the sounds using the same sensors and technology found in Onix y Marmol, creating a three dimensional soundscape.
