Viewing Windows – Diane Nguyen
Diane Nguyen’s project for the 2026 Jack Straw Writers Program is a series of vignettes that focuses on the challenges of motherhood as a queer millennial, the everyday life of queerness, and reproductive health. In her conversation with curator Claudia Castro Luna, they talk about what it’s like to grow up as a Vietnamese-Laotian in midwestern America, and the sense of loss that comes from being disconnected from your ancestors. “This idea that I don’t have many queer elders to look to kind of mirrors this idea of . . . my extended family stops at like maybe my second cousins. . . . And so yeah it’s about kind of coming into my identity, both as an Asian-American and as a queer woman.”
Music by Star Gondola, produced through the Jack Straw Artist Support Program.
