Radio Programs

In 2012, Jack Straw Cultural Center and KUOW produced a series of radio pieces about Music/Culture, Space, Technology, and Souvenirs/Legacies of the Seattle World’s Fair, with reporter Harriet Baskas. This 4-part series aired on KUOW-FM in 2012, and was made possible with funding support from 4Culture.

2012 marked the 50th anniversary of the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair. Dubbed Century 21, many pavilions at the space-themed exposition looked to the future. The fairgrounds were also filled with music and amusements of all kinds. In the first of a four part series produced by Jack Straw Cultural Center and KUOW, Harriet Baskas looks at some cultural impacts of Seattle’s Space Age World’s Fair.

On Sunday, October 21st, 1962, the Seattle World’s Fair came to an end. For six months, nearly 10 million people visited the Century 21 Exposition. The Space Age themed fair left behind many memories and a lot of memorabilia. In the final part of our series on the Seattle World’s Fair, Harriet Baskas looks at some of the stories behind the souvenirs.
