VirtualConcert is the next generation in the creation and experience of contemporary music. Created by composer Mark Weber, Joseph Franklin of the Relache Ensemble in Philadelphia and Suzanne Fetscher of the Atlantic Center for Arts, the VirtualConcert is an exploration of the creative uses of the Internet for the composition of music. This past year, Seattle composer Jovino Santos Neto worked with Musicians Accord, a New York-based ensemble, to create a new composition, Os Vaglumes. Working together in a series of residency activities designed by Jack Straw, Neto and MA sought the guidance of audience members in the creation of the piece. To further explore the possibilities for interaction with the audience, Neto and the Jack Straw staff designed Web pages that allow users to listen to sections of the piece as they evolve. They also documented all of the residency activities on this Web site. The previous year, composer Rand Steiger and the California EAR Unit collaborated at Jack Straw on a new piece, Frame(s), intended to be experienced both online and at concerts in the real world. Two projects have also been completed at the Atlantic Center for the Arts as part of the East Coast portion of VirtualConcert. |
