A group of third-graders from the Bertschi School in Seattle visited Jack Straw's studios on March 3, 1998
for a hands-on introduction to experimental music and music recording. After a tour of the studio,
students learned about melody, harmony and rhythm and were treated to a short performance of Frame(s).
Several students also got a chance to try conducting the ensemble by playing on a variety of
percussion instruments. "We enjoyed going into the sound rooms and watching the computers work,"
said Nina Liebow, age 9, a Bertschi student. "We got to lead an orchestra and we learned the three
elements of music. There were a lot of songs that we recognized, but they were played in a
different way."
