Jack Straw Productions' New Media Gallery

Jack Straw Productions' New Media Gallery was opened in 1999 to support artists working with visual and installation art, with an emphasis on sound. Gallery residencies of up to 3 months are a combination of applicants from our annual call for applicants, and exhibits by invited artists. As part of their residency, gallery artists receive up to 20 hours of studio assistance with one of our engineers.

Maps & Legends by Tania Kupczak “Maps&Legends”

Sound installation by Tania Kupczak
Opening reception: Friday, October 14 ~ 7pm
Artist talk: Saturday, October 15 ~ 11:30am
“Maps&Legends” responds to our cultural compulsion to preserve objects whether or not we understand their histories. Using tiled markers installed in the early 1900s in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood as a starting place, the gallery becomes a sonic deep map that offers participants the opportunity to navigate aural and visual topographies of the neighborhood.

Tania Kupczak is a Seattle-based media artist. She currently works at the Northwest Film Forum.
