CASTING SHADOWS is a multi-sensory video installation of comics that explore disability culture and the human experience. Projections of hand drawn comics and original soundscapes envelop the viewer in a wash of story. CASTING SHADOWS is a cultural conversation that considers themes of animal-human interdependence, aging and connection, family, the role of assistive technology, and home.

In conjunction with this exhibition, we will present an accessible workshop for blind and visually impaired students and sighted friends and family on Saturday, October 1st from 1-4pm. E-mail education@jackstraw.org for more information or to sign up.

E.T. Russian is a cartoonist, author and documentarian from Seattle. Russian is the author of The Ring of Fire Anthology, a member of cartooning collective THE HAND, a featured performer in Sins Invalid and Co-Director of the documentary Third Antenna.

Jack Straw Cultural Center gratefully acknowledges City of Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, 4Culture King County Lodging Tax Fund, Washington State Arts Commission, ArtsFund, media sponsor KUOW, and individual contributors for their support of Jack Straw Artist Programs. Additional support for this installation comes from Art Matters, the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, and the University of Washington Harlan Hahn Award.
