MEANY MIDDLE SCHOOL 2017-18

ELL students at Meany Middle School

FAVORITE PLACES AND MEMORIES

In the fall of 2017, Jack Straw teaching artists visited Weston Cooper's ELL students at Meany Middle School to write and record their own original pieces on the theme "My favorite place or memory." Writer Kathleen Flenniken helped the students with their writing, and then Jack Straw voice coaches worked with them to hone their live reading. In December, Jack Straw engineers and voice coaches visited the school to record all of the students' pieces. Voice coaches for this project were Katya Landau, Andrew McGinn, and Meg McLynn; engineers were Joel Maddox and Ayesha Ubayatilaka.

MEANY POETRY

In the spring of 2018, our artist team worked again with Weston's students to write and record original poems. Poet Samar Abulhassan worked with the students on their writing, and Jack Straw vocal coaches again helped the students prepare to record their work. This time the students visited the studios at Jack Straw, where our voice coaches and engineers helped them create professional recordings of their work.
