2008 Winter Audio Workshop Series

After an overwhelming response to our last round of classes, we are offering an additional set this winter, including the seldom offered and well worthwhile INTERMEDIATE PRO TOOLS!

Jack Straw Audio Workshops are the perfect opportunity to jump start that recording project you've been thinking about, to refine your digital editing skills, or to get that first hands on introduction to the world of audio recording and editing.

HOW TO SIGN UP: A nonrefundable deposit of $25 is required to register and hold a place in each class. Students are encouraged to pay in full at time of registration. Registration for each class will close ONE WEEK before the class date. Please make sure you contact us to reserve your spot early on! Spaces are limited. To register call Jack Straw Productions at 206-634-0919 with your credit card to pay the deposit or full class fee. Students may also get a brochure form, and mail in a check for the deposit or class fee. For more information email workshops@jackstraw.org.

Hands-on instruction in the industry’s most popular digital audio production system. Students will learn basic commands and procedures for recording, editing, and outputting with Pro Tools, and will work on a project of their own as a class exercise. Students should bring a personal project to work on or one will be provided. Knowledge of Macintosh computers is recommended, but not required.


Basic Studio Recording
Wednesday and Thursday

Fee: $135 member/$160 non-member

An introduction to sound recording with focus on studio equipment and techniques. This class will cover acoustics, the recording signal chain, recording formats, and production planning. Students will do a group recording project in class. Basic working knowledge of the Pro Tools digital audio workstation is recommended.



Intermediate Pro Tools
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
March 19-21
6-10 pm
Fee: $250 member/$300 non-member

For those with a basic working knowledge of the Pro Tools digital audio workstation, this is a hands-on workshop to expand your creative skills in digital audio production. Topics will include mixing techniques, the use of signal processing plug-ins, signal routing, use of MIDI, and audio for video. We'll begin by analyzing existing sessions created at JSP, and then you'll work on a project of your own.



Instructor Bio

Tom Stiles specializes in live performance sound and recording, and he has worked with hundreds of performers from around the world in concert, festival, and studio settings. He has used Digidesign's Pro Tools digital audio system for recording, editing, and sound design since 1993, and taught classes in Pro Tools since 1996. Tom is a member of the Audio Engineering Society.
