Composer Spotlight:
GARRETT FISHER

Bridging Ancient and Modern Forms Through New Opera

Wed, January 13th, 7:30pm

Garrett Fisher and members of the Fisher Ensemble will perform excerpts from recent projects, including At the Hawk's Well, The Passion of Saint Sebastian, and Psyche, and talk about how old and new forms are brought together in these pieces.

Composer Garrett Fisher leads the Fisher Ensemble, an eclectic mix of collaborators, vocalists, movers, actors and musicians that harness ritual and myth to bring opera into the 21st Century.  His operas have been presented at such places as The Chapel and On the Boards in Seattle, and HERE Arts Center and Judson Memorial Church in New York.  His piece The Passion of Saint Thomas More is available on BIS.

Coming Up: Wednesday, February 10th, 7:30pm

CURTIS TAYLOR: Abstract Change Pleasure
Curtis Taylor is a narrative filmmaker. He is currently in residency at New City Theater in Seattle, at work on a project that explores flying dreams and suicide. His talk will feature a screening of two short music films made possible by Jack Straw’s Artist Support Grant (Bachianas No. 5 and Church Weather). He will also present a brief lecture on, variously, the incompatible vocabularies of cinema and opera, the compatible vocabularies of cinema and automobiles, and a mystery in music that cannot be penetrated.

About Composer Spotlight

The Composer Spoltight series is presented by Jack Straw Productions and Washington Composers Forum (WCF).
