Composer Spotlight:
CHRISTOPHER DELAURENTI
The New Phonographers
Wed, August 12, 7:30pm
Christopher DeLaurenti will detail the exploration and modification by artists of the venerable turntable, from record players made of cardboard (the CardTalk player and the flap-o-phone) and TinkerToys to lathe-like devices such as the Palimpsest, "Paper Record Player," and other conceptual and so-called "Anti-Records." Includes a performance and hands-on demonstration of the flap-o-phone.
Christopher DeLaurenti is a Seattle-based composer, improvisor, and music writer. His sound work encompasses field recordings, electroacoustic and acousmatic music, text-sound scores, free-improvised low-tech electronics, and compositions for acoustic instruments. Christopher's latest album, Favorite Intermissions: Music Before and Between Beethoven-Holst-Stravinsky, received accolades from The Wire magazine, and appeared as a Top 10 pick in Artforum. He has been heard at numerous exhibitions, concerts, and festivals most recently at the Taipei Biennial (2009), Bellingham Electronic Arts Festival (2009) the Seattle Improvised Music Festival (2002 and
2008); and Spark Festival of Electronic Music and Arts (Minneapolis, 2008).
