A composer is always faced with the same problem when he or she begins a new work: a blank page. Brad Sherman will explore how ideas come from nothing (they don’t) and how to form those ideas into something that can take on life and become a work of art. He will also discuss and perform excerpts from his new work “Wind Shadows.”
Brad Sherman is a clarinetist, composer and educator. His music vocabulary is rooted in the late twentieth century, and has become more "romantic" in the past several years as he attempts to dig deep into the way we feel and behave as human beings, then translate that emotion and/or behavior into sounds. He believes this has helped his music to become much more personal and hopefully even revealing and enlightening for the listener. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts at the

This series of talks and performances of new music highlights an innovative composer or performer every second Wednesday of each month at Jack Straw Productions. WCF is a non-profit arts organization that nurtures the creation, performance, and dissemination of new music by composers living in Washington State. Since its founding in 1984, WCF has produced concerts, readings, and lectures in the U.S. and Canada, representing many composers in the region.
