WRITERS PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
Established and emerging artists working in any discipline or genre may apply to any or all of the residency programs offered. Artists living outside of the Puget Sound region may apply, but should be aware that expenses for travel, lodging, etc. are not included in the award. Literary groups applying to the Writers Program are limited to three persons.
Current Jack Straw staff, interns, board members, panelists, or their immediate family members may not apply. Artists participating in 2007 programs may not apply again for the same program in 2008, however, they may apply for a program in which they did not participate in the previous calendar year.
You may apply to more than one artist program, but must submit a complete and separate set of applications for each program. Note: The Writers Program has a separate form and set of guidelines from the Artist Support and New Media Gallery Programs.
WRITERS PROGRAM SELECTION PROCESS
Applications are evaluated and awarded by a multidisciplinary selection panel (Artist Support, New Media Gallery) or invited curator (Writers Program). The panelists and curator change each year, and are all established artists and arts professionals invited by Jack Straw staff. The names of the panelists and curator will be made public after the selection process has been completed. All applicants will be notified of the results in writing. Please allow at least twelve weeks after deadline dates for the review and notification process to be completed.
WRITERS PROGRAM SELECTION CRITERIA
The Writers Program receives more than a hundred applicants, from which 12 writers are selected. The curator will base his or her selections upon the excellence of the work represented in the support materials provided by the applicant, and his or her subjective response to the applicant’s work sample in comparison to the other submissions received.
